SIGHTINGS - 2006
Tom who lives in Co.Cavan rang in sometime in December
2006 to say that his first sighting was 80 years ago – when I said “Did you say
80?” “Yes” says he – “Then how old are you now?” said I - “I am 85 years of age”
was the reply!! His first sighting was when he was five years old – he was
looking towards the west when he saw some strange lights in the sky – four on
one side, four on the other – they were flying at high speed – 4,000 miles per
hour and about 30,000 feet high in the sky. They would meet each other and do
exercises, then would stop abruptly. His mother told him they were from another
world. His second sighting was when he was 11 or 12 years old. He was sent
on a message to another house and on the way back walking through sleet and
snow, he was covered with phosphorescence and was glowing from head to toe. He
recalls that there was a big light, the size of the VW car hovering over him
with a red light 18” in diameter, shining down on him. He said he was beamed
up, or lifted up, 6 foot from the ground, he grabbed hold of a branch of a tree
and then dropped to the ground. There was no sound from the light. After a
week or10 days he became very sick, did not eat for 40 days, and lost all the
skin from his body (we wondered whether it was from radiation – in those days
they would not have known of such a thing). His third sighting was with his
brother – the war had just started. When out in the field they saw a ball,
bigger than a football, and the colour of platinum. They wanted to turn it over
so got a plank of wood to try to lever it up but he said it weighed half a ton.
They then got more wood and lit a fire in the hopes of melting it down. Next
morning when they went back there was no trace of the 'ball'- he said you could
just see signs of a fire and reckoned that a blast must have sent if off. I
have reported this exactly as it was told to me – I have my reservations as to
how he could recall so accurately at such a young age – he puts his memory down
to Apple Cider Vinegar and Honey!! I leave you to draw your own
conclusions.
Eileen who lives in the Newbridge are of Co.Kildare
reported that last summer about 11.30 pm she observed a massive UFO was over her
house – it was there for about 15/20 minutes – it had loads of lights around the
rim. She also said that on another occasion, she and the whole family saw a
light 'sitting in the sky like a plate – it was the size of a two-storey
house'. Apparently many people had seen this and it had been reported over the
KFM Radio station in Kildare at that time.
John who lives in Balla,
Co.Mayo, rang to say that on 5th May 2006 he was lying in bed listening to
music at around 2.40 am when he saw a very bright beam of light. It looked like
a helicopter with searchlights. It got brighter and brighter and the beam of
light shone into the room. He lives on elevated ground in the heart of the
country and it could not have been the lights of a car, as his bedroom is on the
second floor of the house. The light got brighter and brighter until it was
like daylight and it shone on to his headboard. He got up and looked out of the
window and could see a very bright disc about 300-500 feet away, above the level
of the tree tops and it was shining a constant light beam, narrow about 2”x 2”,
and there was absolutely no movement in it. He is a precision engineer and
knows that any beam of light will have a 'shimmer' to it, but this one was very
steady. He went downstairs to get his camcorder but by this time the light
was beginning to fade. What surprised him was the fact that although he had
removed the cap from the camcorder it was still telling him - “remove the cap”.
He tried to take some pictures, but nothing at all came out – it was blank. The
light then started to fade away until it finally disappeared behind some clouds.
The whole episode lasted about five minutes. He was rather freaked out by this
incident although at no time did he feel at all threatened.
Niall
reported that on the night of 18th December he saw what he believed to be a
UFO. It was triangular in shape and had two lights, it moved from almost ground
height to above the plane and zigzagged twice before disappearing, all in a
split second. He said that nothing that he was aware of could have moved at that
speed.
Conor who lives in the Lucan area of Co.Dublin reported that on a
clear night during October 2005 at 11.20pm he saw between 9 and 12 orange lights
flying in a ‘delta’ pattern from a northwest to southeast direction. He could
see the stars through the triangle - they were traveling far too slowly for any
aircraft. When he first saw them they were at the 9 o’clock position and they
finished up at the 2 o’clock position. When they got to the vertical they
started breaking formation and individual lights accelerated away very fast,
before blinking out. One of the lights seemed to be rotating very slowly. There
was no noise. The sighting lasted about three to four minutes.
COPS JOIN
ALIEN HUNT – thus ran the headline in the Kildare Post of 28th June. It went on
to say Kildare skies were invaded by mysterious lights last week leaving
witnesses awestruck. “Astonished Kildare people watched mystery lights
in the night sky last week and feared a UFO might land. Investigations into the
alien sightings were undertaken by Naas Gardai and radio station Kfm was
inundated with callers who saw up to seven lights. Baffled motorists pulled
over to get a closer look at the phenomenon. The strange lights caused
confusion and amazement as they lit up the sky in the early hours of Friday
morning. Seven bright lights, in a triangular shape, flashed on and off
erratically for over five minutes. Noel Herbert noticed the bright lights at
2.20 am in the early hours of Friday morning as he returned home from work.
He has rare video footage of the lights, bright in the sky over Naas
Racecourse. He said “It went from one light to seven lights and in between.
The lights were close enough together and in a kind of v-shape. There was no
sound. The lights just kept going on and off. It was really strange. I
thought I was losing my marbles and I wasn’t going to say anything until I
turned on Kfm. (Kfm is the local radio station in Kildare)) Kfm were inundated
with callers who observed the lights from as far away as Carlow.
Christy
Byrne from Kilberry spotted the lights over Athy. “There were very bright
lights in a triangular shape, six or seven of them going on and off. They all
went off at one stage but then they all came on again. They were too bright for
street lamps and too low for an airline. I don’t know what it is, I can only
say what I have seen.” Gardai in Naas were alerted to the bizarre lights
over Naas Racecourse,. A patrol car was dispatched to the area. Kildare Today
presenter on Kfm, Noel Shannon, said the station had a stream of callers. “The
first person saw the lights near Athy, he was picking up girls from a disco and
saw the lights going there and back. Another lady in Clongory near Newbridge
saw them around the same time. We took well over 20 calls on Friday morning”,
he added. Betty Meyler from the UFO SOCIETY OF IRELAND said: “It
certainly sounds like a UFO. It shows all the signs of being one”. Michael
Soaper of Contact International (UK) said it was an awful lot like other
well-known cases around the world. “Triangle shapes are very common sightings,”
he added. “Their characteristics include complete silence.” Naas man Paddy
Brehan said the lights could be due to a natural aurora phenomenon but he
wouldn’t rule out the possibility if it was a UFO. The aurora he added could be
caused by radioactive particles hitting the earth’s atmosphere and causing this
effect. “Another phenomenon with an aurora is when they hit the ice caps at
certain points and create rays like a rainbow,” he added. But the former Naas
politician and historian wouldn’t rule out a more unusual explanation for the
lights seen in the county last week. “People could have seen a UFO. I wouldn’t
dispute that fact at all. We have strange things in cornfields. I would never
say no. There has to be some form of life on the other side of the universe,”
he added. A spokesman for the Irish air Corps said they hadn’t planes in
the vicinity that night and, as a result, didn’t observe anything unusual.”
